Artificial light at night has become a form of environmental pollution – light pollution. In this talk I will give insights into the topic from an ecological perspective and then focus on winter light pollution. I will report on “snowglow” – skyglow amplified by snow that outshines the full moon, and an expedition to the Arctic Circle during polar night featuring frozen lakes, icy roads, ice pillars and auroras.
